How student storage works

Student storage is a small unit — usually a 5×5 or 5×10 — rented for the three or four months between leases. You can rent it online, get a gate code instantly, and hand access to a roommate or a parent.

Because everything is month-to-month, there's no summer contract to sign and no penalty for coming back early. Rent in May, move out in August, pay only for what you used.

Why people choose it

Priced for a summer

A 5×5 starts at $38 a month, and splitting a 5×10 three ways costs less than a night out.

Roommates get their own codes

Each person on the unit has a personal gate code, so nobody waits on anybody.

Rent from your phone

Sign and pay online in about nine minutes — useful during finals week.

No penalty for leaving early

Ten days' notice and we prorate the rest. Internships change; leases shouldn't punish that.

Climate keeps books usable

Textbooks, laptops and posters come out of a climate unit in the same shape they went in.

Parents can handle move-out

Add a parent as an authorized user and they can clear the unit without you flying back.

Is this the right pick?

Yes, if…

  • Your lease ends in May and starts again in September
  • You're studying abroad or interning out of state
  • Three roommates want to split one unit
  • Dorm furniture, a mini fridge and bins need a home
  • You're moving between apartments across town
  • You want your parents to be able to pick it all up

Maybe not, if…

  • A full apartment of furniture — household storage sizes fit better
  • A car for the summer — see vehicle storage
  • Storing food, plants or anything perishable
  • You need someone to pack and haul the room for you

Quick answers

Can I rent for just the summer?
Yes. Every lease is month-to-month, so a May-to-August rental is the normal case, not an exception.
Can roommates share one unit?
Absolutely. Add each roommate as an authorized user and everyone gets their own gate code and their own entry log.
Do I need climate control?
For laptops, textbooks, instruments and anything with a screen, yes. For bikes and plastic bins, drive-up is fine.
Can my parents move my things out?
Yes, as long as they're listed as an authorized user on the unit. You can add them from your phone in under a minute.
What if my internship ends early?
Give ten days' notice, clear the unit and we prorate the unused days back — there's no early-termination fee.
Which facility is closest to campus?
St. Louis Park and Roseville are the two closest to the U of M and the Como-area rentals, both under fifteen minutes off 280.
